Review – Velocitron Throne of Skulls

I grabbed this vinyl toy a few months ago when they were first released at Lulubell Toys (website) and now it’s time we dive in and take a close look at the Throne of Skulls from Velocitron (website, Twitter). It’s a pretty simple design, but it’s an excellent piece for anyone looking to assemble a spooky display.

A Mound of Skulls

My only complaint with the toy is with the title, because this looks nothing like a throne and a hell of a lot like a mound or a pile. But that’s just a name, and as you can see the toy itself is a pretty neat pile of skulls that would work well with just about any collection of spooky kaiju toys . . . or even with your Masters of the Universe Skeletor toys.

A Decent Size

The toy measures roughly 3.5-inches across and 2-inches tall, just large enough to be noticeable without being too big. And each tiny skull sculpted into the mound has as much character as the other toys we’ve looked at from Velocitron (Ghouls review here, Larvagon review here); these are twisted toys but the style’s fantastic if you’re a fan of the unusual and creepy.

Closing Thoughts

I’ll admit that the Velocitron (website, Twitter) Throne of Skulls isn’t the most exciting toy in my collection, but for $15 it’s a cool vinyl toy that can work perfectly as a diorama or background element for just about any toy series out there. Recommended if you’re a fan of Japanese vinyl toys . . . and even if you’re not you may want to consider grabbing one of these; seriously, a pile of skulls is exactly what your Masters of the Universe Skeletor needs to make him happy.

Philip Reed has some other Velocitron toys that he bought from Lulubell Toys that need to be reviewed. Maybe next year . . . since next year is only a few days away.
