Review – World War Robot Deep Powder Bertie

As promised in the Bertie 7 Pack master review (review here), here is the first close look at one of the robots packed inside this most recent World War Robot* release.

These individual bot reviews are primarily photo reviews. Yes, there is text (did you really think I could post an entry without rambling?), but mostly what we’re going to get with the single Bertie reviews is photos of each individual bot. So let’s get on with it and enjoy the robot toys!

A Massive Gun!

Deep Powder Bertie is equipped with a massive cannon that connects to the bot’s backpack by way of a soft plastic ammo belt. Similar to the ammo feed/backpack we saw in the Membership Bramble toy (review here), this particular ammo belt is a step up and less frustrating than the one included with the Bramble. Why is that? Because this belt is easy to slot into the gun and backpack while the Bramble’s ammo belt took some patience and effort to pop into place. Yet another example of how this series of toys has improved in the last year.

My Favorite Bertie Colorway

The instant I popped open the Bertie 7 Pack I knew that I was keeping the Deep Powder Bertie. I just love the colors on this toy, and the snowflake image on the robot’s head makes him fit in perfectly with the Deep Powder Square (review here) that I’ve got on display in the living room. I wish there would have been a Red Bertie — that would have definitely been my favorite — but I haven’t heard of one of these yet so for now Deep Powder is my favorite of the group.

The Weathering is Phenomenal

I’d love to see a video or WIP shots in the factory of these toys being painted, because until I see photographic proof that conflicts with my imagination I’m going to say that Ashley Wood is personally painting every single toy that leaves the factory. Take a look at the close shot below and notice just how detailed and awesome the weathering paint effect looks. Yeah, an artist had a hand in that design.

Where’s My Screwdriver?

You see those screws in Bertie’s hand (photo below)? I have to admit that I’m tempted to pop those screws out to get a close look at the toy’s assembly. I know how it works, but that fact that I can see the screws makes me want to look at the insides of the hand. Does anyone know what’s wrong with me?

I Love the Pouches

Just like we see on a lot of high-end 12-inch scale action figures, the Berties come equipped with cloth pouches. I haven’t tried popping one of the pouches open, but I think these can be opened and packed with gear. I usually don’t have much of an opinion about cloth accessories on smaller toys, but the coloring and design of these fits in perfectly with the Bertie’s coloring and the pouches really add to the overall look of the toy. Very nice touch!

Closing Thoughts

Fun! The Berties are great toys, and the coloring and gun on this Deep Powder Bertie make it the best of the bunch.
