“Robot Drives Toy Tractor Away From Obstructions”
An issue of Popular Mechanics from 1956 offers us this look at the Marvelous Mike toy robot and tractor, a design I am certain I’ve seen in one or two of the toy guides that are hanging out here at home. The idea of a robot driving a tractor was no doubt revolutionary in the fifties, and even today we don’t exactly have robots handling our farmwork. Maybe next year?
As with a lot of these old magazines the B&W photography really sucks away some of the fun. Fortunately, the web is here to help and in a icollector.com auction we find a full-color photograph of the toy. Complete with box! You’ve got to love the color choices they made for this mechanical toy.
