“‘Rook’ Gets Decked Out for 80th Birthday”
I was reading The Game Makers* yesterday, and as this is my second time through the book — I first read this history of Parker Brothers back in 2008 — I can get a bit more out of the work. I’ve found that a second (and sometimes third) reading of a book allows me to better absorb the details, and as I read through the book I started to ask myself: What newspaper articles can be easily uncovered about Parker Brothers?
Well, it doesn’t look like there are a lot of stories hiding in the Google newspaper archives. I managed to uncover this December 5, 1986, article on the 80th anniversary of Rook, but generally the selection of stories is pretty limited. I suspect that the problem is me — searching these archives is definitely more an art than a science — so I’ll wait a few days and then dive deeper into the online archives.
