“Save on Micronauts” at Sears in 1978
December 6, 1978. Kenner’s Star Wars action figures and vehicles were the real winners of Christmas in 1978, so it shouldn’t be a shock at all to see Sears offering discounts on Mego’s line of Micronauts toys. What is a bit of a surprise, though, is that the sale price in this ad isn’t as steep as I would have guessed. Someone must not have realized that the Micronauts‘ days were numbered . . .
I don’t know, Philip…those seem reasonably modest sales prices for toys that were on shelves for over a year, given the circumstances. Remember these prices are about 1/3 the value at the time due to inflation, and the two toys featured were not from the latest releases, but re-releases of ones from the year before.
From what I’ve read before, 1978 was one of Mego’s strongest years for Micronauts, where they achieved #2 in boy’s toys sales against the Star Wars jugger…naut.
Ironically it’s Sear’s days that are numbered now.
