Sixteen Years Later and the Star Wars Expanded Universe Action Figures Haven’t Changed in Value

If you ever needed proof that action figures aren’t exactly the best investment for your future then this ad from the July, 1999 issue of Lee’s Action Figure News and Toy Review (Amazon.com search*) should be quite educational. If you compare the listed price of the 1998 Star Wars Expanded Universe action figures to what you can expect to pay today you’ll see that the costs are effectively unchanged. You can find some of these for less today, some for a little more today, but overall it’s basically a wash.

Thank you to everyone who saved back cases of the Power of the Force action figures; you’ve made it much easier for collectors today to pick through and find their favorites from that almost twenty year old toy line.

  1. People just can’t seem to grasp the concept of supply and demand. That and I don’t think anyone back in ’99 figured the internet would effectively kill off the demand for action figures completely.

    1. @ShenaniTims – I know I never expected the internet to have the impact on society that it has. Even a decade ago it wasn’t as important to daily life as it is now. I am totally on the “web is a utility” side of the argument these days.
