Some Cars Not for Use with Some Sets!

There was a short window of time in the early eighties — between Empire and Jedi — when I got heavily into Hot Wheels and Matchbox toy cars. It all started when we first moved to North Dakota and some of the kids in the neighborhood pulled out their carrying cases (not unlike the cases seen in this commercial) and I got a really good look at a bunch of cars at once.

One of the cars I remember best was the Hot Wheels Tricar X8 (see the Hot Wheels Wikia page). No doubt that mad car is part of why I’m today drawn to only the really unusual Hot Wheels cars; that rocket design with three wheels still looks like it would be fun to drive.

  1. @John Maddening – In the commercial it kinda sounds like he hadn’t yet worked his voice up to full speed. Fast, but I think he may have been even faster in the Micro Machines commercials (and as Blurr).
