“Some toys don’t live up to their ads” in 1984
Power Lords. Barbie. Star Wars Presto Magix. Stompers. These toys take a beating in this 1984 newspaper article where the question is asked: “Do toys work the way their TV commercials say they do?” Absolutely not, and even at eleven when this article was new I could have answered the question. These adults, though, decided to hand the kids toys and ask them to recreate scenes in commercials with expected results. Silly adults, it’s called marketing.

Glad I was sitting down when I read their news article. Could have floored me otherwise — some products don’t live up to their advertising? THE SCANDAL!!!
