Spider-Man is the Top Superhero Toy!!!
A Yahoo article about superheroes that was posted today lists Spider-Man as the top superhero toy in the world. With over a billion dollars a year in sales, Spider-Man reportedly outsells the Number Two spot — Batman — by more than double. Holy sales figures, Batman!
In May, License Global placed Disney first among licensors with sales of about $41 billion in 2013; Warners was seventh with $6 billion. Both have strong properties: The Licensing Letter listed Marvel’s Spider-Man global retail sales at $1.3 billion and Avengers at $325 million in 2013, compared with DC’s Batman at $494 million and Superman at $277 million.

That is amazing. I never would have thought Spider-Man was that hot of a seller. Honestly blown away that it outsells Batman, and by twice the amount too. Crazy.
That makes sense. Spidey is much more kid-friendly.
Surprises me, quite a lot. I see a ton of Spider-Man merch in every toy section I go into, but it always seems to be peg-warming!
As Jay says though, Spidey is way more kid-friendly — as was (most) of the Avengers movie — so maybe it’s not that big a shock.
