Spotted Online – 1983 and 1984 Power Lords Catalogs

One fun thing I really enjoy is flipping through old toy catalogs. Back in my day, when I was a child of the eighties, the toy makers out there really knew how to build a catalog. That’s something seriously lacking into today’s world of toys, and I blame the internet for the nearly-complete death of the toy product catalog.

Anyway, we’ll jump back three decades for a peek at the 1983 and 1984 Power Lords toy catalogs posted at the Power Lords Return website. The catalogs are fairly short, but each one is so packed with fun that it almost makes me want to chase down some of those old Power Lords action figures to compare them to the new releases from the Four Horsemen (available at the Four Horsemen webstore).

That Vulcan Rock playset is awesome, as are the Surprise Attacker toys featured in the 1984 Power Lords catalog. This is where I would cry about the loss of action figure playsets, but I’ve been mentioning playsets for over five years — see Cardboard and Plastic: Cheap Star Wars Playsets and Spotted Online – Action Figure Playsets — so I should probably wait another week or so before I talk about playsets again.

  1. I agree — I miss toy product catalogues and things like Sears catalogue. I’m not sure if Hasbro still publishes them or not, but I’ve received a few from them after ordering from Hasbro Toy Shop. The closest we get these days is the Toys R Us Wishlist book near Christmas.
