Spotted Online – A Look at Coleco’s History
Back in December of 2014 I posted a taste of Coleco’s past. Well, Coleco seems to have returned to our attention again thanks to this DoomKick post where T-Rav dives into the Google Newspaper Archives and shares with us various articles and ads from the eighties.
A fun post and a good use of the Google Newspaper Archives. (You have no idea how happy it makes me to see someone else exploring those old newspapers.) My only suggestions to T-Rav are to clear the search before snapping a screenshot — it took me a few tries to learn that clearing the search removes the highlight bar — and to always include the issue date, newspaper name, and link to the newspaper with each article.
The screenshot of the article is great, but providing historical info and a link makes the article even more valuable to anyone who wants to chase down more info.
Keep up the work, T-Rav! Just watch out because you can quickly find you’ve spent hours in the archives. Good thing this is all online or you would get dirty with old newspaper dust and smell all over you.

Thanks for the tips. I’ll be sure and work them in future pieces that use the newspaper archives. I’ll have to figure out the trick to removing the highlight bar. I’m sure it’s something so simple that I’m overlooking it. Thanks again and be sure and check out Doom Kick’s piece on Worlds of Wonder while you’re at it. There’s no use of the newspaper archives but it’s a similar piece.

@T-Rav – All you need to do is open up that particular newspaper in a new tab and then jump to the article in question. Unlike the book/magazine archives on Google there’s no simple “clear search” button. I wish there was.
