Spotted Online – Books for Soviet Children

The blog A Journey Round My Skull is one you should spend some time with, because it is packed with tons of awesome and unusual artwork. But if you’re short for time then I suggest that you start with this post that shows artwork from Soviet-era children’s books.

Weird, fantastic work that is totally unlike what we usually think of when we think of illustrated books for children. All of this work is by E. Benyaminson and taken from the book Hello, I’m Robot! written by Stanislav Zigunenko and published in 1989.

And the good news is hidden in the post:

“This is the first post of a series featuring my recently-acquired collection of Soviet children’s books from the 60s, 70s, and 80s.”

You know, buying old Soviet children’s books isn’t the sort of activity I would have ever thought to pursue. Man, I love how the internet entertains and educates me.
