Spotted Online – Comic-Con and the Business of Pop Culture Reviewed at Robot 6
I first mentioned the Comic-Con and the Business of Pop Culture* book last month while I was in San Diego (post here) and as of this writing I’ve only read the first couple of chapters. I know, I should finish this book and get my thoughts up on the site.
Fortunately, while I may be behind on being useful the crew at Robot 6 is on the case and has posted a review of the book. The review isn’t 100% glowing and sappy, but it’s positive and well worth reading if you have any interest in the book.
He also presents about as strong as an argument for the continued importance of comic books for the big publishers like Marvel and DC, even if they continue to make most of their money from licensing of their intellectual property to other media, as I’ve heard, one that’s pure business, rather than based on nostalgia or appreciation of monthly super-comics as an art form . . .
Reading the review has moved me to try and finish reading the book this weekend. It’s not that I wasn’t enjoying the book when I first picked it up. No, it’s just that the office has been a bit busy and I’m behind on almost everything at the moment. I’m hoping that will change in a month or so.
