Spotted Online – Crafting Custom Plush for Cash

Over at bizmiss.wordpress.com, Lauren Venell, owner of Sweet Meats Plush, has written a post about creating plush for a store. It’s an interesting idea, and Lauren has some words that should be read by any artist who is looking at selling direct:

” . . . I stood firm on my price, which is hard to do in the current economy. No one wants to risk losing work. But if I don’t believe in the worth of my own skills, no one else will, and the job wasn’t worth it anyway if it was just a sweatshop job.”

Lauren’s right, I think. Hand-crafted toys, regardless of the material used, are art and should be treated as art; that includes when it comes time to pay.

If you’re a DIY fan, want to become a creator of designer toys, or just wanna read about some of what goes on behind the scenes, check out her post.
