Spotted Online – Francesco Francavilla’s Hellboy Work
Francesco Francavilla (blog, Twitter) has posted some cool sketches and a discussion of the process he went through to create the back cover artwork for four different Hellboy. Francavilla has a great style, and it’s always fun seeing the process behind the creation of art, so this is a post I suggest you check out. You can see his sketches below and the final work at his blog.

I also provided DH with a second option, something a little different from the classic panel or little illo: a (almost) full page icon of the Right Hand of Doom (symbolizing HB) holding a cube that has a fish, a bat, and a flame (symbolizing Abe, Baltimore, and Liz) on the 3 surfaces facing us. Needless to say, MM and DH loved the idea so we run with it.
