Spotted Online – G.I. Joe Meets MechWarrior

This is already old news for some of you, but no matter if you’ve seen this before or not you need to get ready for G.I. Joe mechs in 2010 with the upcoming Pursuit of Cobra series. And an animated movie? Awesome. I hope it’s half as good as G.I. Joe Resolute* (mentioned here).

HISS Tank has photos and information on the upcoming series, including several nice shots of the mecha. And there’s more than just mecha, since some of the photos are of updated vehicles and there are even a few new 12-inch scale action figures.

I’m a bit torn on the mecha. On the one hand, G.I. Joe (since about 1985 or so) has always had a bit of an unrealistic, goofy sci-fi feel to it, but on the other hand mecha may be taking things too far. Not to mention that the photos make these look like they’re gonna be awesome toys.

Do I get one when they hit shelves or do I ignore them? I suppose the Pursuit of Cobra animated film will help me decide.

  1. seriously: G.I.Joe being too goofy sci-fi? i thought that was it all about! and i do enjoy it! (for its hilarious moments) i bet if military would be this crazy cool then i had joined them in a heartbeat! But in knowing that it´s not like this i was glad to have solve my civil services (yup, there´s a second choice to army in germany) – i think what works in term for G.I.Joe and a lott of other series is what Prof. Jenkins here sums up nicely “a physical embodiment of a character drawn from popular fiction which can function as a vehicle for playing out fantasies or which becomes an element in a collection” http://www.poeghostal.com/2010/01/5-questions-with-prof-henry-jenkins.html

  2. Awesome. I love mechs and e-frames. I hadn’t heard anything about this, cause I’ve been out of the loop as of late. Great looking stuff.
