Spotted Online – Making a Case for Unlicensed Carrying Cases
Over at theswca.com there’s a new post — “Making a Case for Unlicensed Carrying Cases” — that aligns perfectly with where my brain is headed these days. In the article, Jason Thomas addresses the unlicensed Star Wars-like action figure carrying cases of the late seventies and early eighties, and the six different case illustrations featured in the article are worth your time. Seriously, these old action figure carrying cases look gorgeous and each one proves just how popular Kenner’s Star Wars action figures were when the line was first shipped to stores.
I don’t own all of the action figure carrying cases shown in the article, but you had better believe that I’m keeping my eyes wide open and watching to grab the ones I’m missing. Some of these are tougher to find than you would think!

Great blog! Thanks for the write up! The only one of those I remember having was the Star World one. I always loved the artwork, though I do remember thinking it was a knockoff at the time. My parents are antique collectors, so I grew up with the same critical eye toward almost everything. I wish I still had that case, or maybe five of them so I could store my loose vintage figures! Maybe I’ll try to track some down…
@rosewater – Some of them are pretty easy to find and quite cheap. $10 or less in a few places (if you get lucky).
