Spotted Online – Mars Attacks at USA Today
We can tell that Mars Attacks (Amazon.com search*) is having a comeback because there’s now a story posted at the USA Today website. The writer behind the original trading cards, Len Brown, gets some time in the sun as USA Today’s Brian Truitt gets a chance to interview Brown about the 50 year old trading card series.
“The artwork is striking,” Brown says of the continued appeal. “The subject matter is so startling. We were doing photorealism for kids of the most graphic sort.”
That’s for damned sure! The Mars Attacks images in the Norman Saunders art book* is just one bit of gorgeous work in a collection of amazing paintings, and later this year we’ll get Mars Attacks*, a 224-page book that’s going to reproduce the original cards, the 1994 sequel, and more.
It’s kinda neat to see such an old property getting so much love today.
