Spotted Online – Mattel’s Battlestar Galactica Television Commercial

Thank you to Plaid Stallions for sharing this 1979 Battlestar Galactica toy commercial! How do I know this commercial is from 1979? Well, the commercial states that “redesigned toys do not launch missiles,” and we know from two different 1979 newspaper articles (here and here) when Mattel recalled the toys because of a grizzly death.

Now what is interesting about those two stories is that one states “death of a 4-year-old child” where the other says “and a 3-year-old Atlanta boy died.” pleasesavemerobots has a lot more info on the story, including a podcast I’ve not yet listened to.
