Spotted Online – New Licensed Transformers Roadbuster!
The 1985 Transformers Roadbuster (see the TFWiki) was one of those early toys that Hasbro licensed from another company and then jammed into the original Transformers series. According to the Transformers: Identification and Price Guide* the original Roadbuster was a “Mugen Calibur” mecha . . . but none of that matters since a new company has licensed the rights to produce a modern version of the toy.
NOTE: Everything I can find indicates this guy does not transform. Also, he’s up for pre-order now at site sponsor TFSource where there’s also a super deformed transforming version. (I actually have an earlier version of that SD toy; I should review it one day.)
The tformers.com post calls this an EM Alloy 01 Mugen Calibur and says it’s $78 with a December 2013 release date. Looks very cool!

These toys are both cool, but I suspect the majority of buyers will look at both figures and say, “Why can’t I buy a regular version that can transform?” The super-deformed version is cute but won’t be everybody’s cup of tea, and it only draws attention to the fact that the other toy being offered is non-transformable.
@Kevin – I think you’re very right. And now that FansProject has announced an unofficial Roadbuster we’ll probably start to see some people cancel pre-orders for one or both of these and instead go after the FansProject design.
