Spotted Online – No Battle Beasts at New York Toy Fair

Battle Beasts News reports that there were no Battle Beasts on display at New York Toy Fair. While I wasn’t surprised at some of the lines mentioned in the report, what I did find a bit shocking is that Diamond Select Toys’ Battle Beasts were not being shown. And while Diamond Select Toys did have an answer when asked about the line — Adam writes: “I was told the line was not dead… just that there was nothing to show right now.” — that strikes me as unusual since just because there’s nothing new doesn’t mean Diamond Select Toys doesn’t want to sell the existing toys.

Maybe it’s just me being cynical, but the lack of Battle Beasts (Amazon.com search*) sure makes it feel like the line is basically dead and destined to vanish from shelves by this Christmas. After all, New York Toy Fair is the place to show off toys scheduled to release stores later in the year and the lack of new toys suggests the end of the Battle Beasts.

But it’s also possible that Diamond Select Toys knows that the Battle Beasts line stands a better chance at success in comic stores (and online retailers) so they’re holding new product announcements for a comic convention later this spring. I guess we’ll know the fate of the line if we haven’t seen anything new by SDCC.

  1. I noticed this too and I agree with your thoughts on it. My Series 1 order at BBTS still hasn’t come in yet, and I haven’t found them locally yet either. I did find the TRU Exclusive Series 1 however, but this doesn’t change the fact the line is definitely in weird spot. Especially for just starting.

  2. I haven’t seen these anywhere yet. Of course, if I did I wouldn’t buy them. I thought I was going to be able to get behind them, but the more reviews and pics I see the more I can’t help but see minimates when I look at these.
Had Diamond Select released these figures instead of the minimate ones, I would have been a lot more excited. I have a feeling that a lot of people would have preferred the non-minimate Battle Beasts.

  3. It’s a shame, but with both Armorvors and Takara’s Beast Saga readily available, the market for a product with the proper name, but that’s only SORT of like the product people are actually expecting… seems small.

I mean, some of the designs are really cool, but when you name something “Battle Beasts” you create certain expectations.

      1. Granted, but apparently, they’re about as easy to get as the actual Battle Beasts products at this point.

  4. I suspect DST needs to see results from TRU before they plan any more, and since these still haven’t hit many TRUs it will be a while before the decision is made.
