Spotted Online – Terminator Salvation “Roleplay” Toys

Both a post at ToysREvil and a TC Games and More show Playmates’ marketing photos of the recently-released “roleplay” toys. You know the kind: masks, hands, and other bits that allow a kid to dress-up as an evil Terminator robot.

I’ve never been a big fan of these types of toys, but I’ve got to admit that the Endoskeleton Patches are kinda neat. Pretty fake looking, but still neat. Try wearing some of these the next time you go out to shoot some pool.

Warning: While the post at ToysREvil is an informative piece with photos, the TC Games and More post tries to talk about the idea of selling toys for R-rated movies. And they don’t even do a good job of it, basically just spouting off the nonsense you expect to see online from someone who has a “think of the children!” bug. I mean, the post closes with:

“Seriously, is this amount of kid-targeted marketing normal for a movie deemed inappropriate for kids under the age of 17?”

Seriously? I mean, isn’t this the same argument we’ve heard for decades? Hell, I remember complaints about Rambo action figures back in the 80s. Give it a rest, people. Toys for R-rated movies is nothing new.

And where were these guys when the Watchmen toys hit? Do kids need toys for the film with blue wang? Or is the primary complaint about the Terminator Salvation toys the fact that there are “roleplay” items? That can’t be it, because their post mentions action figures.

  1. yeah, toys will be made for everything that they can be, if you don;t think they’re appropriate – don;t let your kids have them! my main problem with these is how creepy the skull looks, and not in a good way.

the T600 power fist would actually be a cool accessory if it was more of an armored glove, and at least a couple of the pistons moved. seems like an unnecessary gimmick; unless a ‘bot launches his hand at someone in the movie, I suppose!
