Spotted Online – The 10 Least Essential McFarlane Toys
The always-entertaining Topless Robot continues their non-stop tradition of following the ProBlogger book by giving us another top 10 list. Or is it a bottom 10 list?
What I love most about Topless Robot is that if it’s geek-related then they’re all over it. The site’s always fun, even if I don’t always agree with their lists/posts.
For example, in their The 10 Least Essential McFarlane Toys post from a few weeks ago I disagree that the Spawn Nitro Riders toys deserve to be on the list. I mean, it’s just wrong to say:
“It’s a sign that Spawn truly was a toy line on some level, which is really one of the most horrible things you could do with it.”
Uh, no. It’s actually a sign that someone at the company knew that awesome-looking cycles were exactly what Spawn needed. The fact that the toys were treated like toys is actually something I feel is unusual for McFarlane (especially at the time), since I always felt the stuff was more statue than it was toy.
That whole Oz series with the S&M Dorothy (shown above)? Well, yeah, that was unnecessary.
Topless Robot is always a ton of fun, without a doubt! And I remember the BDSM Oz series, way over the top and pointless! Not to mention REALLY disturbing.
@Wes Grogan – I constantly find myself reading Topless Robot. Very, very fun site.
I frequent topless robot as well, despite the profanity. I remember when those mcfarlane Oz toys came out, they had a couple of cool figures, and then that very disturbing dorothy.
i got the 2 radio talkers of slapshot but would have liked to get one of the bros. the movie is just cool and i think that sold the toys. somewhen, haha. My whole metal gear solid are resting in pieces (McF toys are not really made to hold forever) in a box. sadly. but with clear plastic being one of brittliest plastic ever is it really neccessary to make pegs on a build a figure out of — clear plastic?
The only line that interests me when getting on clearance is this one (though the hip articulation aint great) http://spawn.com/news/news3.aspx?id=13656 “regular dudes custom fodder”!! yeahs!
