Spotted Online – “To Sell Toys”
Poe Ghostal’s Masters of the Universe Classics Rattlor bio discussion posted earlier today (read it here) is as much fun as earlier posts in his series (MOTUC Bios Series at Poe’s site) but it was one specific link in his post that led me to something I don’t remember having read before.
“To Sell Toys”, posted at the TFWiki, is a great read that outlines exactly why toy makers like Hasbro and Takara exist and why the supporting fiction like comics and cartoons exist: To sell toys. In the end, these companies are there to manufacture and sell toys and as we all know toy manufacturing is expensive so it is the marketing job of tie-ins like comics and cartoons to sell those toys. This is a simple fact and one we should all be aware of, but it was fun to find an entire page at the TFWiki devoted to this subject.
“To Sell Toys” is great and I hope that we can all keep this in mind the next time we’re following fiction that’s based off of a toy series. Thanks, Poe, for linking over to this!
