Spotted Online – Transformers #81

IDW Publishing (website, Twitter) is putting a lot of effort into their various Transformers comic projects. I continue to be torn when it comes to the books — see my post on Transformers Continuum — but I keep grabbing the collections and trying my best to follow along.

But now the fans have launched a petition to further confuse matters. As explained at Bleeding Cool fans are trying to get author Simon Furman and IDW to continue the older Marvel comic series where it left off. And Furman is ready to work on the project:

“I actually would like to pick up the baton from Marvel issue #80 and run with it again. There was a lot we never got to do, that I’d like to revisit or just to take the next big steps with all that we’d set up in the previous 20 or so issues.”

I think this could be fun, but even though I’m a Generation One fan I can’t quite see how they could make this work. Even the ongoing Transformers comic series that had been clearly Generation One-inspired has blurred lines with the movie so it would take IDW some real work to keep this comic completely separate from their other works.

Still, the idea of seeing what Furman had planned over twenty years ago could be fun.
