Spotted Online – William Meikle’s “Crustaceans” Reviewed at Famous Monsters of Filmland
One issue with being on the Dark Regions Press (website, Twitter) mailing list is that they sometimes manage to change my mind about a title. Crustaceans by William Meikle sounded like it could be fun, but I had successfully managed to avoid ordering a copy (I already have more books to read than I have time).
Well, now this review at Famous Monsters of Filmland has me rethinking my decision to skip the book. The review is short, but just being reminded that the book exists may have been enough to push me over the edge.
It begins with a dead whale on a Boston shoreline–not in itself an unusual occurrence. But the things that claw their way out of the blubber are very unusual indeed. A cast of giant crabs, evolved over centuries, descends on a small coastal town and, having feasted, make their way to the city using the sewer system. Soon they are swarming around Manhattan, hunted and harried by a SWAT team tasked with ridding the city of the menace…before the menace gets big enough to rid itself of the city.
