Spotted Online – X-Wing Miniatures Game Review at The Robot’s Pajamas

Every single time that I see the Star Wars: X-Wing Miniatures Game* I think I need to grab it right then, drop everything, and sit down and start blasting TIE Fighters. Ever since I got a look at the gameplay back at the New York Toy Fair in February I’ve been thinking about this game, and every time since it has been released that I encounter a review I think: “This is it.”

Visit The Robot’s Pajamas!

And now I see this review at The Robot’s Pajamas where the conclusion is what I’ve been thinking since February: The game is great! And those miniatures that are packed with the game — as well as the expansion units (Amazon.com search*) — just make the game even better.

Why have I resisted so far? Only because I know that if I buy the basic game I’ll want squadrons of TIE Fighters, Y-Wings, and X-Wings . . . and I’ll rarely get a chance to play with all of those toys. I need dedicated time to play games every week.

  1. Well, I am surprised but I’m going to cut myself off after 2 core sets, (1) y wing xpansion, (1) TIE advanced expansion and (1) regular tie.

With that I’ve pretty much reached the amount of fun I can have with these things. however, I dread next year when the Falcon, Slave 1, A Wing and TIE interceptors come out. Having grown up more as a ROTJ kid, the TIE Int and A wing are my favorite ships. I might be in trouble then 🙂

Also, so far our longest game is about 2 hours with set up. And since we don’t play any kind of campaign, we can just play it whenever.

    DOOooooo it!

  2. I have lots of Micromachine X-Wings and Tie Fighters. Any chance I can use these in lieu of buying more expansion packs? Do the expansion packs have unique rules?

PS. Please don’t stone me if this goes against your gaming morals. 12 dollars is a lot for a small craft.
