Star Wars Action Battle Computer and Radio Controlled Sand Crawler

This full-page advertisement comes from the August 1980 issue of Warren Publishing’s The Rook comics magazine. What was especially awesome about those Warren magazines of the late seventies and early eighties was that the company ran their own mail-order business, and many issues from that time include full-page ads for various Star Wars toys, models, books, and assorted other merchandise. The archive.org “Warren Publishing” collection is loaded with fun, but many of the scans are low-res and grainy, which is exactly why I decided to scan this page and share a high-res version of the ad with the world. We need this stuff documented and saved for the future, gang!

  1. I never heard of the electronic game. An interesting piece of merchandise, but from reading around it seems a bit of a lackluster toy.

I had a small stack of Warren comic magazines from this period–Rook and some others. They did have some interesting ads. Wish I had scanned them. A few of them had full page color ads for Kenner Star Wars toys inside the covers or on the back.

    1. @Dan N. – I included one of those color ads in my newest Star Wars book. Those old ads still make me stop what I’m doing and dream of toys.
