If you’re impatient and can’t wait until next month then the Nerdist has your back. They’ve posted the Star Wars “Force Friday” catalog from Hasbro, showing us the new toys that are set for release in early September.

I’ve been surprised at how many random “5 POA suck!” comments have appeared online. I’ve posted about five points of articulation before, and even today I believe that limiting action figure articulation to just five points makes for an easily playable toy.

It’s also nice to see more 12-inch scale action figures, and the return of Micro Machines for this film is a surprising treat.

Anyway, see the catalog at Nerdist and then decide for yourself which new toys you think you’ll enjoy.

  1. Here’s my thought on it:

So what if the 3 3/4″ figures are 5 points of articulation? They’re the line designed for younger people. They’ve got some awesome looking Star Wars Black six inch figures in this line and those will be the high-point for me.

I’m still most intrigued though at what the price-point on the 6 inch scale TIE will be….

    1. @Nick Ahlhelm – TIE? I’m guessing $150. I don’t think they would go any higher than that.

Oh. And I suspect there are some major hollow bits.

  2. Going by what I’ve seen so far, the overall impression gained is that I wouldn’t want to live in a world where this movie is a success.

  3. I don’t have any problems with 5 POA, but I’ve been hearing that these single figures have a higher price tag, equal to what you would pay for the two packs. I would have a hard time justifying paying that much for these, especially when there are other figures that represent a better value. I have to wonder if that’s due to this being the first bit of media released since Disney took over ownership of the property. Maybe they’re charging a bit more for the licensing. Or maybe the cost of labor in Chinese factories has taken a jump since the last series of figures came out.

I must have seen some different trailers than Jester, because I’m intrigued and excited by getting to see new characters and stories in the Star Wars universe. It’s really all subjective though. Some people may hate a movie for the same reasons that I love it.

When your action figures have less articulation than Lego men, you’ve got a problem.

Heh, you must have seen some different trailers, because there’s nothing remotely new about the characters or stories that Abrams is teasing with this film. There’s an Empire, there’s a resistance movement, there’s a desert planet, there’s a rebellious young man who wanted to serve the Empire and ends up being tutored in the ways of the Force by a bearded old hermit, there’s a hotshot pilot, there’s a diminutive brunette plot-device in white robes… Heck, there are sites doing frame-by-frame comparisons between the trailers and shots from Lucas’s films, but none of that should be surprising, because as a filmmaker, Abrams appears to have neither an original bone in his body nor a soul for that matter.

    1. I guess I have lower standards then. That’s the great thing about the world today. I can like whatever I want, regardless of what other folks think. And it works the other way as well.
