Steve Purcell “Robot Wars” Cover Artwork for Different Worlds Magazine

Check the Wikipedia page for artist Steve Purcell, creator of the Sam & Max series, and you’ll find a listing for Different Worlds magazine covers. According to Wikipedia, Purcell illustrated the covers for issues #33, #35, #36, and #37, all of which were published in 1984. That’s cool and all, but the list neglects to include this cover for issue #38 of Different Worlds.

In addition to being a cover by Purcell from before his career took off, the artwork also belongs in the BattleTech camp for one reason: That giant robot on the right is definitely inspired by the BattleTech Griffin, which itself is a Soltic H8 Roundfacer from the Fang of the Sun: Dougram series. Yeah, it gets confusing. Still, at least the art is fun!
