Stompers Military Toys in 1983
Clearly, society easily forgets the past, as is wonderfully demonstrated in this 1983 newspaper article. Hasbro’s G.I. Joe toys of the late sixties would completely disagree with this article’s opening which states:
“While other toy and game categories come and go with the trends, military toys, particularly military vehicles, remain ever-popular among action-loving children.”
Hasbro transitioned G.I. Joe from a military toy to adventure toys over a decade before this newspaper article was written, but nowhere in the article is it acknowledged that parental concerns had ever affected sales of military toys. Was this more of the Reagan-era patriotism at work, or was the article just a focused advertorial designed to sell Stomers toys? We’ll never know, but at least we get a goofy picture to enjoy along with the article (which is honestly more of an ad for the Stompers toys than anything else).
