Thank You, Rob, for Teaching Star Realms!

Yesterday afternoon I was lucky enough to sit down with Rob Donoghue (blog, Twitter) for ice cream and a chance to learn a new game. I picked up Star Realms (Amazon.com search*), a sci-fi deckbuilder, a week or so ago, and after Rob so generously donating his time yesterday I now know exactly how the game plays.

We played a single game of Star Realms between other Origins commitments, and after that one session I believe I can say that this is a swell little deckbuilding game that plays fast enough that the randomness of the draw doesn’t damage the experience. Before sleep last night I downloaded the Star Realms app and played the AI three or four times; there’s some depth hiding in the cards, but nothing overly complex and nothing that seems to prolong the game.

Thanks for the lesson, Rob, and now it’s up to me to take this back to the office and teach others how the game plays.
