The Apex Book of World SF 2 Pre-Orders
Apex Publications (website, Twitter) published an entertaining collection of sci-fi short stories a few years ago, The Apex Book of World SF*, and now I see that they have a sequel book in the works . . . and up for pre-order at the Apex website.
The first book was a great read, with stories from authors around the world writing sci-fi that felt different from what we get when someone with a cultural background similar to our own sits down and tells a story. My favorite story in the book is the very first one — “The Bird Catcher†by S.P. Somtow — but it wasn’t the only good story in the book. And it was such a fun read that I’m quite happy to see the sequel is coming.
An expedition to an alien planet; Lenin rising from the dead; a superhero so secret he does not exist. In The Apex Book of World SF 2, World Fantasy Award nominated editor Lavie Tidhar brings together a unique collection of stories from around the world. Quiet horror from Cuba and Australia; surrealist fantasy from Russia and epic fantasy from Poland; near-future tales from Mexico and Finland, as well as cyberpunk from South Africa. In this anthology one gets a glimpse of the complex and fascinating world of genre fiction – from all over our world.
