The Complete Vader
I’m home from the Diamond show, where one of the things I had a chance to look at was Del Rey’s upcoming The Complete Vader, a massive 192-page book devoted to Darth Vader.
This book is absolutely amazing, with page after page of great images and tons of text devoted to exploring Vader as a character, including several sections on the creation and evolution of the character. Plus, Vader in marketing and as a commercial success.
Bound into the book are fold-out pages, trading cards, and assorted other bits that just wouldn’t work well on the book’s (oversized) pages. This is one of the better Star Wars books I’ve seen, and I unfortunately didn’t get more than a few moments with the book. I will be buying myself a copy as soon as it’s out, though.
The guys at the Del Rey booth were kind enough to let me snap a few shots of the book to share. I figured that any Star Wars fan would want to see these, since this has to be the best Star Wars book of the Christmas season.
I’m really looking forward to getting my hands on this and having time to read the book (and enjoy all of the images; I’m serious, this thing is as much art/photo book as it is reference and resource guide to Darth Vader and his place in the Star Wars universe).
That looks awesome!
I got the Star Wars Scrapbook when it came out several years ago and it is awesome. This Vader book looks about on par with that, with lots of little “extras” like the cards and stickers.
I have to admit that Vader *used* to be my favorite SW character until they actually fleshed out his story. Some characters are just better when their story is left to the imagination.
But that’s no reason not to have Darth Tater in my office 🙂
