“The Magnificent Look of Tron”
Electronic Games Magazine. October 1982. Here’s a chance to get a peek at how Tron (Amazon.com search*) was seen by video game geeks back in the early eighties. I can’t ever remember Tron being seen as anything more than a failure, so the article’s closing statement leaves me wondering what else I am misremembering when it comes to the movie.
“Tron looks to be the most successful movie the Disney Studios have produced since Sleeping Beauty. The primary source of its popularity, it appears, is the uncanny way in which the special effects wizards have taken every dyed-in-the-wool videogamer’s fantasies and made them burst into life on the screen.”
I remember loving the hell out of Tron when I was a kid, but the word “popular” was never one I associated with the movie. I guess I need to track down some reviews and rankings from when the film was new . . .
