“The man behind some of America’s favorite toys” in 1990
Toycoon Bernie Loomis makes another appearance at battlegrip.com today with this May 18, 1990 newspaper article by Scott Bernarde of Cox News Service. The story, promoting Loomis’ then-new Quints line of toys, gives Bernie Loomis a fantastic introduction with:
“The Star Wars and Hot Wheels toy lines, See ‘N’ Say, Strawberry Shortcake and Care Bears, the Snoopy toothbrush, The Six Million Dollar Man, The Man From Atlantis and Baby Alive were, in some part, the brainchildren of Loomis. The former executive with Mattel, Kenner and General Mills Toy Group also designed toys for Hasbro and Tyco.”
I’ll never have the reputation or resume Loomis left behind, but I definitely can draw inspiration from his success in the toy industry. It’s unfortunate that after leaving General Mills the man never had any other great hit, but his victories in the seventies and eighties alone leave a legacy that will impress toy fans for decades to come. Now to find more old articles about Loomis to see what else I can learn.
