“Tonka, Hasbro Corner Sizzling Robot Market”
I thought I had found all of the 1984-1986 newspaper articles about the Transformers toys. I was wrong. This Associated Press article, published in the December 3, 1984 issue of the Sarasota Herald-Tribune, was one that I completely missed earlier this year when I was digging deep into the Google newspaper archives.
These old articles will come in handy one of these days. I just know that there will come a point in the future where someone (me?) decides to assemble a book all about the transforming robot toy craze of the time, and when that happens it is exactly this sort of information that’s going to make the book so very fun.
“Hasbro will have shipped 10 million Transformers worth $80 million by the end of the year. Tonka reports that 15 million GoBots, worth $100 million in retail sales, have been sold so far.”
