“Toymakers hit it big with the classics”
Trendmasters (Wikipedia entry) looked as if they were going to take off big during the nineties. The company invested heavily in several lines of toys based on movies (Amazon.com search*), but when those gambles failed to pay off things went wrong and that was that.
This February, 1998 Associated Press article from the Daily News is from Trendmasters’ optimistic days. The article points to both Godzilla and Lost in Space toylines as then-current pushes for the company. It’s too bad both movies didn’t do all that well.

Interesting… you’d think that the Godzilla and Lost In Space licenses would attribute to their downfall, but according to the Wiki article, “However, while the 98 Godzilla line proved to be a loss for many retailers, Trendmasters made a profit, and the company continued to do well for several years.” —
