ToysRUs Express

I guess this is how ToysRUs plans to take advantage of the death of KayBee toys; by sticking mini shops into malls across the country. Smart idea; we’ll see if this actually works. I suspect it will, since TRU can charge higher prices in these “express” locations and capture the mall-shopping audience that never goes to an actual TRU store.

  1. LOVE IT! Some had speculated that they’d use the K*B name here, which made no sense to me. What they’ve done is taken the K*B name (to prevent any other toy outlet to pop in the mall with that name) and are going to use the holiday mall locations.

Of course, lots of TRUs are next to malls, so I am curious how that will work. Regardless, glad to hear there will be more places to get toys.

  2. I wonder if the prices are going to be higher. That is why I never shopped at K.B. What I could get at K.B. for $10 I could usually get at TRU or Walmart for $7.

  3. What clark said — TRU *could* charge higher prices in the mall locations, but that was part of what killed KB in the first place. Unless they were on sale, I never actually visited KB for new toys — I went for the (really) old discounted ones. With the exception of the odd exclusive, I don’t know anyone who went to KB for new stuff.
