Trade Your Old Cars for a 1971 Matchbox Superfast Car
You don’t see deals like this at the toy store these days. Travel back in time to the seventies where you could take your old and broken toy cars to the store and get a discount on a brand new 1971 Matchbox Superfast diecast toy car. $0.59 is the discounted price? Hell, have toy car prices stayed relatively stable for about forty years despite inflation?
That’s a great gimmick. Something like that would of had me smashing my cars on purpose!
I don’t know for sure, but I’m going to guess that the “Superfast” was Matchbox’s attempt to compete with Hot Wheels…but we all know how that battle ended.
I suspect that increases in manufacturing capabilities (and, especially, overseas manufacturing) has had a LOT to do with keeping those prices “stable”…
