Transformers Hardhead Advertisement from 1987
I’ve reviewed two different versions of the Headmaster Hardhead over the years (Titans Return review, Unofficial Hardbone review), but I unfortunately don’t own the original 1987 Hardhead toy. Fortunately, I do know how to track down info on those older toys, though, and I am happy to share this 1987 ToysRUs ad that gives us a good idea of what the toy cost when it was new.
Seeing the ad does make me again want the original toy. Ugh. Maybe tomorrow when I swing by Rogue Toys they’ll have one at a good price?

The Titans Return one is my favorite Transformer. I’d be interested in seeing the original. I’m guessing he was larger because that price isn’t much out of line with the modern RRP.
If you get one, FOR THE LOVE OF GOD, do not open the flap on his chest that reveals his tech specs. The metal rod on Hardhead and other Headmasters becomes stuck over time, and it’s easy to crack and rip the plastic cover when you try to open it. I learned this the hard way recently when I accidentally broke the Hardhead from my childhood. Thankfully, I soon after found a pretty minty and complete Hardhead at a local toy show for $60, about half of what he goes for on eBay. The good news is that he’s not that uncommon. Just be careful.
@Kevin – None for me yet, but thanks for the tip!
