Transformers Metroplex

Missing Hasbro’s media event this last weekend means I missed out on the reveal of a new Metroplex toy for the Transformers line. Wow. I am absolutely amazed that Hasbro is taking a shot at a new Metroplex, but it’s really happening. $125 for the monster; see CollectionDX for pics and the info on the planned release.

The photos make me think that the transformation of the new toy is a lot like the 1986 release. The sculpt certainly looks more impressive and detailed, and if the transformation really is as easy as the older toy then I may have a new Transformers city in my collection this year.

  1. I’m seriously considering purchasing this. I’m a TF fan but not a collector but these pics look impressive. If I’m as impressed when I see it in hand, $125 be damned, I’ll buy it. I’ll use it as eye-catching gaming terrain for Kaiju Kaos: Smackdown! 🙂

  2. Considering its size alone, the $125 is really quite reasonable. A 3rd party combiner would cost 4-5 times that amount. Now where in the world could I store a 2 foot tall transformer?

  3. Yeah; I won’t be waiting for a sale for a few reasons:

    1. To support the concept. I want to see them take a stab at Trypticon now, and that’ll only happen if this does well. Which means getting these moving off shelves to show that there is consumer demand for more citybots. (I would LOVE a Trypticon that was somehow able to pull off a Nemesis transformation, myself.)

    2. As other people mentioned, I would have paid double the price for a third party figure of this caliber. Heck – I’m paying $300+ to import a Fort Max reissue. It’s all about perspective here, and this is a steal of a price considering what I would be prepared to pay for similar products.

  4. I think this is gonna kickstart alot of folks into collecting again.

Hopefully it’s a good sign that Hasbro is gonna deal with 3rd Party by making better product.

  5. @Court – The rumor I heard was that Hasbro has again forgotten the third party toys. I think you may be right and it’s because they decided to start producing monsters like Metroplex.

  6. @Stratos – Hopefully a lot of collectors won’t blink at the $125 price and Hasbro will bring us a Trypticon like General Tekno wants. I’ll also happily take a Trypticon!

    1. I too would love to see a Trypticon and an Omega Supreme!! I had the original Omega as a kid and loved him!

And to point out for price, if $125.00 is the MRSP, places like Wal*Mart will likely discount that at least a few bucks.
