Transformers Microscope, Super Jet, and Dinobot Assortment

Out of a 1986 Best stores newspaper advertisement (from the December 14 issue of the Arizona Republic) comes this sale on Hasbro’s Transformers toys. All of these are from the 1985 selection, meaning that the store was very likely trying to clear these out at Christmas to make room for the next wave of new toys. I would love to find more info on how toy industry sales worked three decades ago; did retailers dump product as quickly then as they do today, or did they allow successful lines to continue growing so long as the toys — even older releases — kept selling?
