Tuesday Tunes – Do It Mambo
Time for more music, this time a couple of tracks from albums I have been listening to a lot over the last couple of days. One track is all instrumental and both are hella fun!
First up is Eddie C with “Do It Yourself” from Parts Unknown*. Shockingly, this was released in early 2011. Yeah, the music on the album sounds like it should have been produced a few decades ago.
Next up is the first track on the Protected: Massive Samples* album. If you have never heard of this album before then check it out; this is a collection of songs that were sampled/covered by Massive Attack and every single song is great. My favorite has to be “Mambo” by Wally Badarou. I’d love to find the Badarou album.
That Badarou track’s pretty lush… what Massive Attack song was it used in? It sounds vaguely familiar but I can’t pin it down to any one track off the top of my head.
For similarly cool, laidback beats and sample fodder, try seeking out 45 King’s “Grooves for a Quiet Storm” released on Tuff City way back in 1996: it’s a collection of samples that somewhat shockingly (given 45 King’s profile in the biz) doesn’t get used more often in commercial joints (I’m more than a little surprised that none of the tracks are up on YouTube… everything’s on there these days).
