Veil of the Deserters Releasing on June 3

Veil of the Deserters*, the sequel to Jeff Salyards’ (website, Twitter) fantasy novel, Scourge of the Betrayer (review here), is scheduled for release next month . . . and I’ve already pre-ordered my hardcover copy!

This will be my first Night Shade Books purchase since the company was bought, and I’m really looking forward to seeing how Salyards continues the story that he started in Scourge of the Betrayer*. The timing means I should have the book in my hands in time for my flight to Origins next month, so if all goes well my travel companion will be fiction rather than office work. Fingers crossed!

Braylar is still poisoned by the memories of those slain by his unholy flail Bloodsounder, and attempts to counter this sickness have proven ineffectual. The Syldoonian Emperor, Cynead, has solidified his power in unprecedented ways, and Braylar and company are recalled to the capital to swear fealty. Braylar must decide if he can trust his sister, Soffjian, with the secret that is killing him. She has powerful memory magics that might be able to save him from Bloodsounder’s effects, but she has political allegiances that are not his own.
