Voltron Returns! (Again.)

It has been almost a year since I last mentioned a Voltron toy (Voltron 25th Anniversary Edition mentioned here) and while my history and lack of deep love for the line hasn’t changed, I cannot argue that the new Voltron Vehicle Robot Vinyl Collection Action Figure* looks kinda cool. My Voltron ignorance is seriously showing, though, because I always thought Voltron was the robot lions. This looks like any random Shogun Warrior to me. Any experts wanna explain what’s going on here?

  • “Classic Voltron, in ultra-bright color!”
  • “Articulated action figure from the Robot Vinyl Series.”
  • “A must-have for the collection!”
  • “This very cool and definitely colorful Voltron Vehicle comes from Toynami’s Robot Vinyl Series. It stands an impressive 9-inches tall and features articulation. So, if you’re a fan of Voltron, you’re sure to be a fan of this! Please note that this figure does not transform.”

  1. I’m hardly an expert, but Voltron was comprised of two different Japanese anime shows. Sort of like how Saban would use various Sentai shows to form a Power Rangers program.

Anyway, the second season used footage mostly from Kikou Kantai Dairugger XV, in which the large Voltron was formed when a bunch of Jeeps and stuff formed together.

Cheap plug, but I think the Baxinger design (toy here: http://www.infinitehollywood.com/2010/08/gn-u-dou-galactic-gale-baxinger-review.html ) definitely would have been a cooler upgrade for the second season of Voltron.

  2. I used to get up at 5am every school day to watch both Voltron shows and Robotech. I always liked the vehicle team a lot more than the lion team. Everyone always gives me a weird look when I say that. 🙁
