Walkman Robo and Convertors Advertised in 1984
This Gibson’s Dicount Center ad block from 1984 brings together the Select Convertors and the Walkman Robo cheap transforming robot toy that I reviewed earlier this year. And as is mentioned in the CollectionDX review of the Walkman Robo, that design was also a part of the Convertors line . . . which makes this ad completely understandable. But those prices. GAH! I’d love to pay that price for these toys today.
You can find more Convertors in these different reviews:
I had all the Convertors Spies (or some KO thereof) at some point except the Walkman and the pistol. I liked them all a lot, they were like cheapo versions of Microchange originally I guess, but totally original. The pinball machine might be my fave, with the cash register a close second.
@Dan N. – I need a pinball machine!
Wish I still had a few!
The “mini-bots” were also pretty good. They were the intermediary between the realistic design and die cast body of the Gobots and also the most eggregious errors in clunky engineering and lame robot modes of that line. But honestly, I still find those a bit better than the contemporary Transformer minibots.
