“Whose G.I. Joe Is It Anyway?”
A few weeks ago I posted a G.I. Joe ad from a June, 2001 issue of Popular Science. More digging into the past uncovers that Hasbro was also advertising in Popular Mechanics at about the same time; this ad comes from the August, 2000 issue of Popular Mechanics.
I really hope that these ads worked out well for Hasbro. Doing the math we can see that 2000 was 36 years after G.I. Joe debuted in 1964, meaning that there’s a really good chance that these ads reached guys who hadn’t though of G.I. Joe action figures since the sixties or seventies.
If anyone out there has data on whether or not these ads in mainstream magazines had an affect on G.I. Joe sales please share links!
