“Wizard Covers it All” in 1992
Back in the early nineties, just as comic speculation was getting launched and fueling ridiculous after-market prices and rampant “multiple issue!” shopping, Wizard magazine launched and dove right into supporting the “hot” publishers like Image and Valiant. (I never really got much into Valiant, but looking back I can better appreciate some of their books today.) Wizard magazine was a giant, Wikipedia reporting that “Wizard was an instant hit, with a monthly circulation of more than 100,000 copies.”
This ad for Wizard comes from Spawn #5 and October of 1992, right at the height of the Image boom and before everything in the comic industry completely collapsed and changed forever. A different time, maybe, and one that many of us can look back and smile.
